I’ve never been to a bridal boutique before – what should I expect?
Don’t worry, our job is to guide you every step of the way. We will start with some dresses we have selected from the information in your questionnaire and we can begin to see what you like. There is no pressure – you can try as many as you like and stop when you like! We will be happy to help you in and out of the dresses, but if you’d prefer a friend/family member to – that’s fine too.
How do your appointments work?
Our appointment-only bookings at the boutique start with some dresses we have selected from the information in your questionnaire and we can begin to see what you like. You can try on as many dresses as you like within your ninety minute time slot, and bring along your family and friends for support.
What sort of dresses do you stock?
All of our dresses are pre-loved or sample dresses. We stock lots of well known designer brands that you can discover through our collection of pre-loved wedding dresses.
Are they all professionally cleaned?
All the dresses are beautifully prepared. Some have been professionally cleaned, some spot cleaned and some steamed.
Do you have modern dresses?
Yes we do! Most of our dresses are just a few years old. Some are very current and some are a little more vintage.
What condition are the dresses in?
Every dress is individually checked before joining the rails. Many are immaculate samples whilst our pre-loved dresses are carefully selected for their excellent condition. If there are any imperfections, we will let you know before you buy.
What sizes do you stock?
We currently stock 8 – 20. Dresses can by altered up or down by two sizes and most of our dresses are unaltered, so there is lots of flexibility. We are also looking to expand towards plus size dresses too.
How much do the dresses cost?
Our wedding dresses are priced by band. Attic treasures are all under £100; The Collection (which is our biggest selection) are between £100 and £400 and Heirloom is a selection of gowns above £400. Olive’s attic was established to help brides have a lovely experience -we won’t let price get in the way if you see a dress you absolutely love.
Do you have parking?
The boutique is in my home – there is drive parking or parking on the road.
Will my dress come with a bag?
Yes – we try to use the actual bag it came in originally, where possible. Alternatively, we have some dress boxes.
Can a pre-loved wedding dress be altered to fit me?
We do not do alterations at Olive’s Attic, but we are happy to recommend a trusted local seamstress. Taking in a bodice, adjusting straps or hemming length are all common alterations. Bigger changes, like letting a dress out significantly, depend on the seams and fabric, so we’ll always be honest with you about what’s realistic for a particular gown.
Can I sell my own wedding dress after the big day?
We are happy to buy back dresses in the condition that meets our quality standards. Many of our brides love the idea of passing their dress on to give someone else the same joy they had. Getting it professionally cleaned soon after the wedding (before any marks set in) is the best way to keep it in sellable condition.
How do I know a pre-loved wedding dress is clean and hygienic?
Every dress that comes into Olive’s Attic is professionally cleaned before it goes on the rail, so you’re trying on and buying a dress that’s fresh and ready to wear — not simply passed on as-is.
How should I care for my dress between buying it and my wedding day?
Keep it in a breathable garment bag (never plastic, which traps moisture), somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight, and ideally hanging rather than folded. We’re always happy to talk you through storage tips at your appointment.
Where do your pre-loved wedding dresses come from?
They come from real brides who’ve worn and loved them, as well as carefully sourced sample and boutique stock. Every dress is chosen by hand, so you won’t find rows of identical styles here – just a curated, ever-changing collection.
Is buying a second-hand wedding dress more sustainable?
Yes, a wedding dress typically takes a huge amount of water and energy to produce, so giving one a second life (or even a third) significantly reduces its environmental footprint. It’s one of the easiest ways to make your wedding a little kinder to the planet without compromising on how you look.
